Creative Self-Care for the Holidays

The holiday season can stir a lot of different emotions for us: happiness, fear, sadness, excitement, and joy - just to name a few. It’s important to take time to slow down, rest, and engage in self-care in the midst of the hustle and bustle.

You might be thinking, “How can I rest when my calendar is full, my to-do list is never ending, my family is battling sickness, and I’m stressed about finances?!” To that, I would say, “Those moments are exactly what self-care is made for.”

Self-care is not all bubble baths and yoga, coloring books, spa days, and expensive gym memberships. Self-care is simply taking care of yourself. While self-care certainly can be bubble baths and spa days, it can also be staying hydrating, enlisting help when you need it, and practicing gratitude.

Here are some creative self-care ideas for “on the go” this season:

  • ask for help (with gift wrapping, with cleaning, with cooking - just ask!)

  • limit holiday party attendance to prioritize only those gatherings that are most meaningful

  • practice mindfulness

  • schedule self-care time

Self-care is not easy or intuitive, especially during this busy time of year. Take a breath, check in with yourself, and honor your needs in this season. Self-care is not selfish - it allows you to be more of yourself and be present to what’s important.
