The Book of the Month for September 2024 is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. This memoir was first published in 2019 and is an honest look at one therapist’s journey with her clients and her therapist.

Lori Gottlieb is a psychotherapist who writes about her experience as both a therapist and a client. With candor, wit, and real-life stories, she shares about what it is to be human, to feel stuck, and to seek help to get unstuck.

From the dust jacket: “Gottlieb invites us into her world as both clinician and patient, examining the truths and fictions we tell ourselves and others as we teeter on the tightrope between love and desire, meaning and mortality, guilt and redemption, terror and courage, hope and change.” This “boldly revealing portrait of what it means to be human” offers us a “deeply personal yet universal tour of our hearts and minds.”

Gottlieb’s account provides an inside look into a therapist’s view of the therapy process and reminds us of this resounding message: we are all human and we heal in relationship with others.
